NET LIP Community Plan is now available on our website

We’re excited to share a big step forward for the North East Toronto Local Immigration Partnership (NET LIP): the launch of our new Strategic Plan!

This plan is grounded in the voices, experiences, and ideas of our community—shaped through meaningful engagement with partners, service providers, and residents across North East Toronto. It reflects not only where we are today, but where we’re going together.

What’s clear is that there’s real momentum. Across sectors, people are showing up with a shared commitment to build more inclusive, welcoming communities—and that gives us a lot to look forward to this year.

As we move ahead, NET LIP is excited to:
• Grow and strengthen partnerships, including deeper collaboration with faith communities
• Support innovative, community-driven initiatives
• Continue centering newcomer voices in everything we do
• Turn the priorities of our Strategic Plan into meaningful, collective action

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the development of the plan and to those who joined us at the Forum. We’re looking forward to what we can accomplish together in the year ahead.

BGC East Scarborough: Scarborough One Love Fest

Scarborough One Love Fest is coming up! This community celebration will bring together music, culture, food, and connection, highlighting unity and joy in Scarborough. The weekend includes performances by Choclair, Saukrates, RISE, Dan-e-o, and international artists, Luciano and Agent Sasco.

On behalf of the Fairview Interagency Network (FIN), we would like to invite you to our annual community event, which will take place in the summer this year rather than in the spring and will be called Summer Fest 2026. The event will take place on June 27^th from 10:30am to 1:30pm at the Parkway Forest Community Centre.

There is no cost to participate and the registration link to reserve a table at our Summer Fest 2026 is here! 

If your organization would like to include materials in the hand-out-bags, you may drop off 250-450 copies of your promotional materials (flyers, pamphlets, pens, etc.) no later than 4:00pm on Thursday, June 25^th. Please note that we will include one paper promotional item per organization. Your promotional materials will be distributed to all attendees at no cost to you.

Newcomer Fair

The East Scarborough Storefront's Annual Newcomer Fair is here! Join us on July 8th for a day of fun, free food, games and raffles. You'll also have an opportunity to connect to key resources in your community - programs for kids, settlement services, municipal services, and connections to healthcare in your neighborhood. This event is free and open to all residents, regardless of status or postal code.

WiFi Hotspot Lending period for July 2026 - January 2027

 Toronto Public Library – North York Central Branch currently has free hotspots available for borrowing by community agency clients. The purpose of this project is for customers that do not have access to internet at home. The borrowing period for the hotspots is mid-June, 2026 till January 6, 2027.

Epilepsy and Seizure First Aid Workshops

Looking for a Family Doctor?

What is North York Primary Care Community Connect (NYPCCC)?

NYPCCC is a centralized point of intake and access for community members looking to be permanently attached to a primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner). NYPCCC will be able to help connect unattached community members to a local primary care provider and other community supports they may need.

The NYPCCC team will do their best to attach people to a provider and support that suits their needs, including referrals to the North York Access Care Clinic if people are in need of more urgent primary care (e.g., following discharge from hospital or who cannot access their primary care provider in a timely manner).

Call for Research Particpants

Researchers from York University’s Socio-Legal Studies Program and a Research Assistant at Toronto Metropolitan University’s CERC in Migration are conducting research on forced migration and the role of regional, municipal, and city officials in supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the context of recent immigration policy changes in Canada. 

The study seeks to better understand how local actors are responding to evolving immigration policies and to contribute insights that can inform future approaches to forced migration in the Canadian context. Eligible participants should have experience working with refugees, refugee claimants, asylum seekers, undocumented or irregular migrants, and/or with related laws and policies. 

The interview will be conducted in English and will last approximately 45-60 minutes. The interview can be held via Zoom (or in person), and the interview questions will relate to your work, experiences with policies concerning forced migration, as well as strategies for assisting and supporting refugees/migrants in Canada.  The interview will be conducted in English

Participant Eligibility:

1. Have experience working with refugees, refugee claimants, asylum seekers, undocumented individuals, and/or irregular migrants;
2. Have experience with laws and policies concerning forced migration in any capacity.

2026 Annual State of the Sector Survey 

Since 2020, ONN has been conducting sector-wide surveys, using specific data points that have been meaningful for sector advocacy. In 2026, realities have shifted for nonprofits and the communities they serve. This year’s survey includes new questions to better understand how nonprofits are meeting the current moment. Data from this survey helps advance collective sector advocacy, and it informs ONN’s policy asks, and the resources we create to support the sector. This work is only possible with your continued participation. We urge all nonprofits in Ontario with a mission to serve the public benefit, including charities, grassroots groups, volunteer-run organizations, nonprofit social enterprises, and nonprofit co-operatives to fill out the survey.

OCASI, in collaboration with Afghan Women’s Organization (AWO), the Centre for Refugee Studies (CFRS) at York University, the Canadian Arab Institute (CAI) invites you to this Hybrid Event. The event aims to deepen understanding of how gender-based violence intersects with settlement experiences, particularly for non-status, immigrant, refugee, and newcomer women. It will highlight survivor-centred, trauma informed, culturally safe, and anti-racist approaches while also creating space to discuss community-based research, peer leadership, practical tools, and referral pathways. 

2026–2027 Toronto Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy (TSNS) Advisory Group

The City of Toronto is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Toronto Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy (TSNS) Advisory Group.

This opportunity is open to Toronto community members who are passionate about civic engagement, community development, and strengthening neighbourhood connections. The TSNS Advisory Group will work with the City from September 2026 to December 2027, providing input on community engagement approaches, supporting City and community-led initiatives, and contributing to the development of tools and resources.

Newcomer Youth Engagement Program (NYEP) at Strides Toronto - June Calendar

The Newcomer Youth Engagement Program (NYEP) at Strides Toronto is excited to share our June 2026 programming calendar. We are ready for a warm and sunny month that is full of learning, fun, culture, and unforgettable experiences designed to empower and inspire NYEP youths as we start this summer! 🌟

Our programs are open to newcomer youth ages 12–21, including Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees. Activities take place at 100 Consilium Place, Suite 102 (Ground Floor), unless otherwise stated. The location is TTC-accessible, and a shuttle service from Scarborough Town Centre is available. Volunteer hours are offered for highlighted programs.

At NYEP, we believe summer is the perfect time to grow, connect, and prepare for the future while having fun along the way! 💛

English as a Second Language - LINC and Literacy Classes

The Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program is a free English language program for eligible adult newcomers to Canada to support their settlement, integration, and participation in Canadian society. It supports newcomers in developing the language and life skills needed for daily living, employment, education, and community engagement. Classes include information related to Canadian culture, workplace communication, digital literacy, citizenship, and access to community resources.

We offer support services: Care for Newcomer Children and TTC for eligible students.

English as a Second Language Classes (CLB 1-7 offered)

COSTI's ESL program offers CLB 5–7 classes for those who want to continue building their language skills, as well as CLB 1–4 classes for those who are just getting started.

Black Youth Justice Service

Tropicana’s Black Youth Justice Service is a comprehensive initiative designed to support Black, African, and Caribbean youth navigating the justice system by addressing systemic barriers, promoting equity, and fostering positive development through culturally sensitive services. This free program aims to empower Black, African, and Caribbean youth, reduce recidivism, address the over-representation of Black youth in the justice system, promote equity, and strengthen community connections by providing individualized case management, culturally relevant counselling, family and community engagement, and collaboration with justice system stakeholders.

We offer free employment support to help you gain the skills, tools, and confidence you need to find and keep a job. This program is part of Ontario’s new model for delivering employment services. Education Tropicana Black Fast-track Stream*

 The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program at Centennial is committed to ensuring you'll be prepared to become a leader in the profession. A fully funded cohort of the ECE diploma is being run for Black learners in partnership with Tropicana Community Services. This cohort has been created for Black learners from the Greater Toronto Area. This opportunity is funded in partnership with the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario and Government of Canada under the new Canada Ontario Early Childhood Workforce Agreement, which provides one-time federal funding to support the retention and recruitment of a high-quality child care and early years workforce

Ontario Together Trade Fund Program

The Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF) provides financial support to businesses looking to make near-term investments so they can serve more interprovincial customers, develop new markets and re-shore critical supply chains in the face of U.S. tariffs. With a focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the program will help businesses, build local capacity, enhance trade resiliency, and make the necessary investments to successfully expand into new markets.

Faith & Welcoming Communities Forum Report 2026

On March 24, the North East Toronto Local Immigration Partnership Faith & Welcoming Communities Forum brought together faith leaders, settlement agencies, community organizations, public sector partners, advocates, and residents for a day of meaningful dialogue, shared learning, and collaboration. With strong representation from both diverse faith communities and the settlement sector, the forum created space to explore how partnerships can help address hate, strengthen community safety, and build more inclusive and welcoming neighbourhoods across Toronto.

 As TNLIP and TEQ LIP merged to form the new NET LIP and we transitioned to a larger geographic area, we adopted a neighbourhood-based approach to ensure a bottom-up model for information gathering. In 2025, NET LIP hosted a series of eight focus groups across key neighbourhood clusters in North York and Scarborough. Focus group participants included from insights of frontline settlement workers, community agencies, health and mental health providers, youth workers, grassroots organizations, and practitioners who support refugees, seniors, residents, families, international students, and racialized newcomers. These insights are synthesized into a report, available on the NETLIP website.

CLEO launches new Human Rights Guided Pathway

People who experience discrimination may not take legal action because the process can feel confusing, complicated, or out of reach. A new tool aims to change that.

The Human Rights Guided Pathway is a free online tool for people who have faced discrimination. It asks simple questions and gives step-by-step help to fill out an application for the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO). The tool is designed to make the HRTO application process more accessible and easier to navigate for people who do not have a lawyer.

Moving beyond per capita estimates: Modelling how immigration pathways influence housing demand
 
Recent changes in Canada’s immigration levels have intensified interest in how immigration affects housing demand. This article presents a methodological framework for projecting housing use associated with permanent residents (PRs) and non-permanent residents (NPRs) under alternative immigration scenarios. Using Census-based per capita housing use rates, the framework estimates incremental housing demand by tenure over time. It distinguishes between one-step PRs, who require housing upon admission, and two-step PRs, who transition from NPR status and are typically already housed. The model also accounts for active residence in Canada using tax filing behaviour, shifts in housing use as years since admission increase, and year-over-year changes in the NPR population, including transitions to PR status. By incorporating immigrant-specific housing patterns, two-step immigration and non-residence, the framework generates housing use estimates that differ markedly from simpler per capita approaches and offers a flexible tool for policy-relevant scenario analysis.

Immigrant and refugee serving agencies play an essential role in successful settlement, offering supports like language training, employment services and community connections. Hard hit since 2023 by a series of policy changes, including extensive funding cuts, the sector is showing signs of crisis: Nearly 70% of agencies anticipating layoffs; 44% expecting to close programs; Three quarters experiencing worsening financial stability; This report, commissioned by United Way Greater Toronto and the City of Toronto in partnership with Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI), documents the impacts of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) 2024 funding changes on agencies in Peel, Toronto and York Region. It also offers recommendations on the steps government, funders and agencies can take to preserve a system and services that has delivered excellence for generations, sustaining Canada’s reputation as a sought-after home for people from around the world. 

Toronto Public Health reopens North York Sexual Health Clinic

Toronto Public Health marked the reopening of its North York Sexual Health Clinic, formerly known as the Talk Shop Clinic, following its closure and recent renovations to improve service delivery. The reopening restores access to free and confidential sexual health services in this densely populated and diverse part of the city. The renovations have modernized the North York Sexual Health Clinic and improved accessibility, creating a more welcoming and comfortable environment for clients. Upgrades include a fully wheelchair accessible exam room and washroom to support the delivery of high-quality, inclusive care. TPH Sexual Health Clinics provide a range of judgement-free services. This includes testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and HIV, birth control counselling and low-cost contraception, pregnancy testing and referrals, and vaccines for hepatitis A and B, HPV and mpox. Clinics also provide free condoms and lube. Public health owned and operated Sexual Health Clinics can be accessed at the following locations across the city:
